......A few years ago Brian Jobson
and I formed Bass Over Babylon
as an outlet for our creative vision.
Bass Over Babylon filters myriad jamaican influences through a prism
of contemporary electronic production techniques, resulting in a compelling and unique blend of the diverse styles that comprise
Jamaicas musical heritage.
Whether the songs sound like techno, lounge or dub flavored hip hop, the underlying
jamaican grooves give them an
organic warmth and a unified direction, they also reflect our eclectic backgrounds.
Growing up in jamaica
we were exposed to the steady transformation of ska & rocksteady into reggae and dancehall that characterized the islands
musical evolution. in a similar fashion, our own musical careers have mirrored this continual quest for new sounds and vibes.
Brian recently worked with top rock group,
no doubt, who asked him to help them tap into the jamaican groove for their Rocksteady album. Brian was executive producer
on 4 songs including the dancehall flavored smash single “hey baby”. This was just the latest stop in a musical
career that started in the eighties as a founding member (with brother Wayne Jobson) of the seminal jamaican rock reggae group
Native. Along the way Brian has worked and jammed with such diverse music industry notables as Dave Stewart & Annie Lennox,
Jimmy Cliff, Betty Wright, Sly & Robbie, and UB40.
I began my career as a recording engineer
at the legendary dynamic sounds studios in kingston, jamaica where I worked with reggae icons and international stars including
Toots and the Maytals, Peter Tosh, Inner Circle, Joe Cocker, Stevie Wonder and many others.
The predominantly instrumental sound of Bass Over Babylon reflects our belief in the universal
language of music, a feeling shared by music lovers everywhere as evidenced by the continued growth and popularity of the
world beat genre. This project is our “labor of love”, and as you
listen to the rhythms and melodies we hope you will fall under the spell of Bass Over Babylon.....
